A rat so big the bodega cat wouldn't go outside.
Where this one came from
Built on New York putting its trash in lidded bins instead of bags on the sidewalk. Lidded bins became required for all businesses in March 2024 and for low-density residential buildings in November 2024, and West Harlem became the first neighbourhood fully containerized with the city's on-street Empire Bins in June 2025. Rat sightings reported to 311 fell for twelve straight months, by more than 20 percent, and West Harlem's fell by about a third. The rules began under the previous administration and the rollout continues toward citywide coverage by 2031, so the story credits a lid, not a mayor. Nuri, Mango and the rat are invention.
